Equipment Advice

Jackets       Goggles       Mid and Base Layers       Socks       Walking Boots

Every year thousands of people descend on mountain regions like the Alps to enjoy all that the glorious landscape has to offer. Many however set out from their hotels or chalets each day ill equipped for what the mountains could throw at them.

The weather in the mountains is notoriously changeable. In the summer, you could set out for a hike in 30c sunshine only to find that the temperature drops, the clouds set in and you find yourself in the middle of a storm. In the winter, the temperature can vary from plus 15c to minus 25c during the course of one winter. In this climate, it is essential that you are prepared.

Being prepared doesn't necessarily mean spending a fortune and buying the best however. You can quiet easily spend hundreds of pounds on a Ski Jacket that is designed for the harshest of environments when you could have spent much less on something that is perfectly suitable for where you will be going.

These pages aim to explain the jargon behind outdoor clothing (what does 3000mm waterproof mean?) so that you can be confident that you are choosing the right clothing and equipment at the right price for you.
